Salt & Stone was founded in 2017 in Los Angeles by Nima Jalali, a former professional snowboarder, and its roots are deeply tied to an active life in nature—where the sea meets the mountains, and performance meets purity.
For years, Nima traveled the globe competing, his skin exposed to extreme alpine and coastal elements: wind, snow, sun, and saltwater. A serious knee injury forced him to step back from competition and rethink his relationship with his body. During recovery, he turned to natural healing and became acutely aware of how harsh chemicals in everyday personal care products hindered his skin’s health and recovery. He soon realized a critical gap in the market: there were no high-performance, clean, and luxuriously scented products designed for active people who refused to compromise on ingredients, efficacy, or design.
Determined to create what he couldn’t find, Nima launched Salt & Stone—named for the raw, elemental forces that shaped his life: salt from the sea and stone from the mountains. The brand’s mission was simple: to craft unisex body care that merges science and nature, delivering powerful, long-lasting results without sulfates, parabens, aluminum, or artificial fragrances.
Starting with a high-performance sunscreen in 2017 and followed by its iconic aluminum-free deodorant in 2018, Salt & Stone quickly gained a cult following for its minimalist, sophisticated packaging and complex, elevated scents—such as Santal & Vetiver, Bergamot & Hinoki, and Black Rose & Oud. Unlike typical “clean” beauty brands that prioritized purity over performance or scent, Salt & Stone proved that clean products could outperform conventional ones while smelling luxurious.
Sustainability has been core to the brand’s identity from the start. Ingredients are sourced responsibly, avoiding pesticides and harmful additives, and packaging often incorporates upcycled ocean plastics—turning environmental commitment into action.
Today, Salt & Stone is a global premium body care leader, sold in over 1,700 stores across 40 countries, including Sephora, and beloved by athletes, wellness enthusiasts, and conscious consumers alike. More than a brand, Salt & Stone is a lifestyle—one that honors nature, embraces movement, and believes that self-care should be effective, clean, and unapologetically luxurious.
